Following a report to the January Board, work is now underway conjunction with the PLC on updating the Trust safety policies and working practices such that they comply with the latest version and requirements of the PLC Safety Management System. This follows the ORR visit to the railway in October 2018 and will also include undertaking risk assessments and competencies in all areas of Trust activities particularly those (but not exclusively) of a safety critical nature.
This work is being led by Chris Austin supported by David Baker. Safety management is now a standing item on the Board agenda and it is crucially important volunteers engage proactively with Chris and David to make sure that the Trust meets all its safety obligations and requirements and where remedial action and/or external help is required, these will be priorities for the Trust. This is all part of ensuring that the railway is a safe and sustainable environment for everybody be they staff or visitors.
