The title is nothing to do with Ben Stokes, but the Steam Trust has just recruited its 100th member, following a run of new applications in recent weeks! There have been five applications in the last week alone. Whilst Covid 19 has stopped the trains running and brought a halt to many of our activities, it has not dimmed the enthusiasm of people who want to be actively involved on our wonderful railway.
Chris Austin, Trust Chairman welcomed the milestone saying, “It is great to welcome our 100th member, a big increase on even five years ago when membership stood at 60. Even in tough times, the appeal of the railway still draws in new friends.”
As numbers have grown, so has the capability of the Trust, which now looks after the two museums at Blue Anchor and Bishops Lydeard, the model railway, outreach to schools and a popular educational programme, as well as carriage restoration and support for associated railway projects such as historic track renewal.
